Kissing Chickens

By: Naomi Fountain

From across the barnyard they saw each other

He brash and boastful

his streaming feathers dark and mysterious

shimmering with green iridescence

each time he stamped his mighty, clawed foot

The Ballad of Turkey Cowboy

By: Jimmy Kudrik

A rusty saloon packed tight with outlaws

Seeds in the trough and the sound of stout caws

With matted dusty feathers and hat pulled low

Turkey Cowboy saunters in, seeking his crow

Don't Step To My Juicy White Breast

By: Trrbl D

Gobble gobble gobble, hands off my wattle

Pluck a single feather and I’ll go full throttle

You know I ain’t no triflin’ little turkey

Mess with my meat and I’ll make you the jerky

About poeltry.com

Poetry about poultry. Is this inherently a comical proposition? By all means, yes. But are some of these poems (or at least parts of them) intended to be "serious"? Also, yes. Perhaps this is a contradiction. But if there's one thing poeltry is not meant to do it's take itself too seriously.

We believe that poetry should appeal to everyone, not just a select few. To that end, we don't believe that poetry should be a puzzle to figure out. Nor should it be overly didactic. Or maudlin. Or raunchy. It should just be fun. And if it happens to inspire folks in some way, that's great too.

Poeltry.com is a curated site. In addition to original poems written by the site's editors and curators, submissions are also accepted.
